What can you expect from a standard consultation?During the first visit, a medical history will be taken. Current and past conditions; family medical history; past treatments and their effectiveness, along with information relating to lifestyle and diet will be sort. This is undertaken to allow the most appropriate treatment to suit your individual needs. Depending on the presenting condition, basic tests such as blood pressure, reflexes and pulse may be carried out. Further medical test may be recommended. Where hypnotherapy or N LP is required, time will be spent explaining what the experience entails. Clients are invariably impressed with the results and are often amazed at how truly relaxing the experience is. Concerns and myths if not dispelled however, can sometimes cause anxiety in what should be a very pleasant experience. Most concerns stem around imagined loss of control or ability to enter hypnosis. It is worth remembering, that all of us go into various forms of trance or into very focussed states, during our waking hours, such as when watching a good movie. As all hypnosis is essentially self hypnosis, we are certainly all capable of it. During hypnosis, clients are in control the whole time. In fact, you usually become hyper aware of your environment, feeling temperature extremes more readily for instance. You are totally capable of making decisions at all times. Despite the common belief that people go from full alertness to deep sleep as they enter hypnosis, you will generally hear every word and remember much of it. However, because it is a focussed attention, nothing will bother you. It is a very relaxing and enjoyable experience, which is able to bring about profound change. Whilst in this very relaxed state, suggestions based on your goals, are made to allow the positive changes you are seeking to develop. It allows your subconscious mind to work for you, a bit like changing the computer programs so that they perform as you desire. It allows you to go beyond relying on will power and ineffective programs. You will be gently guided back to a fully alert state towards the end of the session. Depending on what you are seeking, the session may also include dietary and nutritional advice. These can also be included into the hypnotherapy session for more powerful impact for you. Suggestions for appropriate action between sessions, would normally also be made at the end of the session. These might include things like: setting realistic goals, preparation of a food diary to be completed over a couple of days or listening to reinforcing CD’s. The number of recommended sessions will vary depending on the condition. Generally 3 -4 sessions are recommended for optimal results. |
